Having little knowledge of handguns, I found this book book fascinating, informative and an easy read. The author's knowledge is very clear and the many black and white and color photographs of handguns, ammunition, powder horns, holsters, etc. were incredible to look at. As an historic site archeologist (retired) this book is a great adventure. Nice detail and good timeline. Great reference source!
Great book
Very technical work more suited to an academic historian rather that the reader looking to gain more in an area of general interest. Very well researched though not up to the present day. Very onerous and rather repetitive from start to finish. The information is all there but does not hold the readers interest.
This is indeed a history book. The author goes into great detail. My main disappointment with this book was a lack of modern handguns. The cover showed a Springfield Armory XD, a very popular gun. I didn't find it or any recent handgun. I did receive a very concise history,just not what I was expecting.A matchlock or flintlock pistol would have been more appropriate for the books cover photo.
